yes, so much trouble...
just like Yi Ma sits on Ming Gong, it means the person leave the homecountry, going to foreign land.

HI all,

I can formularize quah's method as follows:

1=Yin, 2=Mao......12=Chou

Use Month EB + Hour EB = A

If
A<14, use 14-(A+B)

If
A>14, use 26-(A+B)

If A=14, use 14-12

the result in each case should be the Ming Gong.

Hi,

do we need to add 1 if the birthday is after a 节气 ?(I saw this in some online bazi video)

E.g.
born in 1980 Jan 23  which is after 大寒
丑月 戌时
26 - (12 + 9 + 1) = 4 =

Please advise! Thanks in advance! :)

Robert,

The Ming Gong procedure involves counting backwards (anti-clockwise) and then forward (clockwise) around the 12-palace on your palm. It may look complicated but I guess you should have no problem following it.

Step 1: Note the month branch (example. Chen) and hour branch (example. You) of the 4P chart.

Step 2: Determine the solar month from your month branch with Yin as the first month. For example, month branch Chen is the 3rd solar month, so 3 is the number.

Step 3: Starting from the Zi palace as 1, count backward until you reach 3 (3rd solar month). You will reach the Xu palace.

Step 4: Starting from the Xu palace as You (hour branch), count forward clockwise (You, Xu, Hai, Zi, Chou,....etc) until you until you reach Mao. Note the palace where Mao landed (should be Chen).

Step5: The Chen palace where Mao landed is the Ming Gong!!!   ~50~

How come i use this i cannot get Mao?
Chen = 3 + You = 8 = 11, 14-11 = 3
From Zi =1, move forward 3 is Yin.

1=Yin, 2=Mao......12=Chou
Use Month EB + Hour EB = C
If C<14, use 14-(A+B)
If C>14, use 26-(A+B)
If C=14, use 14-12
and A = month EB, B = hour EB

Chen = 3 + You = 8 = 11, 14-11 = 3
From Zi =1, move forward 3 is Yin. ( move backwards and not forward ) we arrive at xu

1=Yin, 2=Mao......12=Chou
Use Month EB + Hour EB = C
If C<14, use 14-(A+B)
If C>14, use 26-(A+B)
If C=14, use 14-12
and A = month EB, B = hour EB

Just a little information about the theory of Ming Gong.

In one version of QTBJ, I ever read that : Wu Xing Fa uses the Ming Gong Theory but Bazi uses the theory of Tai Yuan (The conception pillar or the fifth pillar).

It is explain that Bazi doesn't use Ming Gong Theory but uses the fifth pillar as can be seen in some of the examples discussed in that book.

Seems that QTBJ has its limitations :P
1) Bazi is not using only the 5th pillar but far more
see http://www.fivearts.net/index.php?topic=158.msg655#msg655

2) The 12 Palaces are very much an integral part of Bazi, just rarely taught  :)

Yes same here. I'm reading a book by bai he ming on bazi and he explains how to calculate the ming gong, tai yuan and tai xi...but I don't know how to interpret it. Someone explained that the ming gong can tell us the strength of the DM (mine is a border line case with 3 fires, 4 earths and 1 water i think and I can't tell if my fire is strong or weak...due to the 4 earths (which tong gen...all 4 of them). Anyone can roughly explain?

How do you use the Life pillar ?
Do you calculate for this pillar, as others, harms, penalty, clash, Shen sha... to the DM HS ?

Hi all,

There is a method called "Guo lao xing zong" (at least this is the name in pinyin I was told when I asked somebody), which takes ming gong as the starting point and the branches are given the 12 palace meanings as shown in the table. Then the shensha (gods and devils) are placed in the circular diagram.  It looks somewhat like a Western astrological chart with branches as signs, palaces as houses and shensha as planets.  The placement and relationships of shensha are analyzed.

Each of the 12 palaces has HS and EB (i.e. also 10 gods), Qiphases, Nayin element, and Shen Sha.
