hi,

I can't find nowhere an answer to my metaphysical question : how do you derive the hexagram of a pillar ? for example JI CHOU year is hexagram n° 20, xun above kun, any kind soul to explain how it is calculated ?

Hi amethyst,

There is no a traditional method,  in  which hexagram originates  from the year pillar.
Shao Yong wanted to introduce a calendar, but the emperor did not accept it.
 Theoretically a big historical cycle 11520 years and 64 hex. represents it.
The present sub-cycle : 1876-2067, and the 38 and 49 hex. dominates it.
This sub-cycle the era of the big revolutions , changes and contrasts.
Lee Chun Feng historical prophecies are based on Shao Yong calendar presumably.

ok, so it sounds too difficult for my little knowledge  :( I'm a curious person so I wanted to understand the logic behind this concept.

My current research is on how the placement of Jia Zi and hexagrams were derived from the 24 mountains and their relationship with each other. Hope I can unlock some juicy bits :)
