The Meaning of the Indirect and Direct Spirits.
« on: November 05, 2006, 08:43:30 AM »
Hi Everyone,

Direct and Indirect Spirit.

Almost everyone knows and speaks about the Indirect and Direct spirits.

What most people don't know why water or mountain and,why its called Indirect and Direct Spirit.

It already has explained itself.
Spirit,the Breath,its Qi ofcourse.
Ok,that means,Qi,Qi thats coming indirect and direct.
Direct Spirit needs Mountain and Indirect Spirit needs Water,Why?

Mountains have the ability to hold, stop Qi before is dispersed by wind so that it can stay.
Water has the ability to gather, attract and retain the Qi.

In Short, there is Qi from the Heaven and from the Earth.
Heaven(yang Qi):The Stars....the solar system.
Earth(yin Qi):Energy within the Earth.
Yang Qi is stopped by Mountain.
Yin Qi is retained by water.

So,the Direct Spirit Locations indicates that it needs Mountains to hold Qi thats coming Directly.
Indirect Spirit Locations indicates it needs Water because water attracts and retains Qi thats coming indirectly
The Directly is coming directly from above, above ground. The indirectly is coming indirect from within, the earth.
We need both the Yin and Yang Qi.

The Direct Spirit for Period 8 is the NorthEast.
Now you know that Northeast needs mountain because the Yang Qi is directly coming from the SW to the NE,thats the Strongest Qi for P8.

For Period 8 the Indirect Spirit is Southwest.
That means,Qi thats weaker, the Yin Qi comes from the NE to the SW and to gather it you need water.
When we have both the Yang and Yin Qi come together, are joined then it creates Balance,a beneficial environment to live in.

Its all about the Yin/Yang,Female/Male,Close/Open and Time also Yin/Yang.

In Da Gua and Liu Fa the Direct/Indirect are in opposite locations.
For period8,The Direct Spirit is in the SW,the Strongest Qi is coming from the NE to the SW.
The Indirect Spirit is in the NE is coming from the SW.

I think this is enough for now....and maybe someone else like to talk about it or to get a bit deeper into it.
Please,add or correct anything.

Thank-you both for this explanation!

I had wondered in the past if water in indirect spirit needed to flow in a particular direction, but your explanation suggests to me that directionality is not the point. Is that correct? Whether water flows towards or away, to the right or the left, is not part of  understanding ling shen?

And I assume that, like in other form-related situations, size and proximity matter (i.e., big water can be effective at more of a distance than a small pond might be, say 2a km away). Is that correct?

Hi Akao, Bzsm, and Devadog,

Here's a question to stir the hornet's nest:   ;D

Does having both mountain and water existing in one area, say for example, the indirect spirit, will this cause a problem?

Is indirect and direct spirit measured by the grid method or the pie method?

Hi bzsm,

Yes! That's why I asked these questions of you (of all people). You are so clearly focused on the bigger picture and integration of multiple techniques. Still, it is helpful to dissect each concept a bit, as AKAo has done for us.

So, AKAo and bzsm (and everyone else!):
Although I expect I am crossing a line with this, I wonder: given the yin/yang flow of direct/indirect spirit in each yun, is there a ba zhai spin-off such that a West Group person, perhaps a gua 8, facing SW with good support to the NE and water to the SW has a particular potential in yun 8? (OK, this really is a question for study not one of my personal ones. I'm not west group ~angel)

I in Period 8 direct spirit uses NE Gen [NE2?]and indirect SW Kun [SW2?], does it meant that I can use E3 [Yi] and S1 [Bing] also?

hi guys,

how do you apply this direct and indirect spirit to individual units within high buildings and apartments?

for instance, if the building receives both direct spirit mountain in the ne and indirect sprit water in the sw, say the unit in front faces sw and receives the indirect spirit but its rear is the other unit that receives the direct spirit from the ne.  in such case, does each unit receive only the direct or indirect spirit but not both?

hi costagnac,

I think u can use south as well.

I heard that direct spirit and indirect spirit only use for the big land or very big area like a town, not for house.

I have a book by a fellow named Lin (not the Black Hat guy) that talks about the auspiciousness of water in high places.  If this is true then water would be near mountain in that case.  When we think of Ling Shen and Zheng Shen as "opposite" why does it have to mean 180 degrees?  If house was located so that its Ming Tang faced water and its left side had the mountain and mountain and water were maybe as little as 45-120 degrees apart, would this have to be a bad luck thing?   :-[  Isn't a good spot still a good spot even if house is not sited to some perfect ideal?  :)

Just thinking out of the box a bit.  Maybe make a fool of myself, but why not?  :D

Regards,
