There are some Masters who claim that winter solstice is already the new year based on astrological movements. In fact, in certain dynasties in ancient China, it was the official CNY.

This may explain why there were fire crackers and glutinous rice balls during winter solstice now. I was in China during that period in Dec and there were fire crackers and celebrations in the small towns and villages.

More accidents perhaps... Did you notice warren buffet bought a railway company? Maybe industry with Metal that moves... Also dependent on the hexagrams of the year.

Many Masters write their predictions every year... you may want to read some of them, share them here and then we could discuss.

Geng Yin year starts on the 4th Feb 2010 and not the period around the lunar new year.

I recalled reading baziqueen's blog recently and she did speak somewhat about the prediction for the coming year.

Why depend on others? You can learn to do it yourself (DIY) with Flying Stars, my article will give you some hints but you will need some basic knowledge of Feixing:

Dong Zhi was the antecedent of Chinese New Year. Emperors of ancient China always held the New Year celebrations at Dong Zhi. It was only during the reign of Emperor Hàn Wǔdì 漢武帝 (156 BC–87 BC) that Lunar New Year was to be celebrated at the beginning of each year. However, even till today, some very traditional Chinese still maintain the view that everyone becomes a year older after Dong Zhi.

BZSM do you agree with this that the CNY is beginning in winter solstice? Would make sense if the ancient people have used the nature to tell them when things change. Also if looking at the chinese astrology, they always count the rat as the beginning of a cycle, and winter solstice is during rat month.

Hi learnerforlife,

Are u asking the question because of:-

1) You want to know when the actual new year should be; OR
2) You want to determine and use it to improve the accuracy of your feng shui and bazi

If it is (2), I suggest you do some back-test on bazi and compare with your observations of facts and/ or events to determine if it is accurate.

In my previous posts, I had mentioned that even for flying stars, it is likely that period 8 arrived earlier than Feb 2004. Look around prior to 2004 and you would notice the rise of younger men in wealth (technology boom) and rising to power.

That is another challenge in metaphysics, so if we can't be sure which period, etc., then we may have some issues with certain methodologies. One example is the use of flying stars.

And to Cyril's point, the Qi cannot just changed overnight or on the spot at midnight, it should be gradual....

I have already started putting in the cures as the spring cleaning starts.

Hey
I guess I could be called a "naturalist" and therefore I seek to connect the theories with nature as I am sure that is how it was done in olden days.
I have actually asked this question before and to me it seems that people are more inclined to go by a book than look into the natural events that could be explaining changes.

I've also looked into period change and I believe it occured during year 2000 and not 2004.

can i just ask what is fan yin and fu yin because there is a blog that compare 2008 with 2010. so there could be possible repeat of 2008 event.

fan yin is branches (month, year, etc) where both HS clash and EB clash
fu yin is branches where HS and EB are duplicate

So if year is geng yin, what would fan yin month be?

Begins February 4th this year.
It is always between Feb 3 to 5.  Most of the time it is the 4th.

If you look at the pillar itself Metal chopping Wood, it is no good.
If Metal is unfavorable and Wood is favorable then, it is a mixed year?
Some schools believe that the stem governs the first half of the year while the branch the second half of the year.

Happy solar New Year 2010!

Yesterday, on 4 Feb 2010 (or 3 Feb 2010 depending on the region) was the start of the Geng Yin year.
I'm a bit surprised that yesterday nobody welcomed the coming of this new year.
To me as a CM person, 4 Feb marked the new year, rather than the much celebrated CNY on 14 Feb (this year).
Or perhaps people's resources are all focused towards 14 Feb, being both CNY this year and Valentine's ~smitten day?

Did anybody experience anything peculiar 1-2 days before the new year arrived?
This can be a confusing time for us, since Qi was in the height of its transition period to the new HS and EB.

Did anybody experience anything new after the new year has just arrived?
I have had a nagging private problem with my house for almost a month, which was difficult to solve,
and glad to say that the source of this problem went away yesterday.
Looking forward to getting rid of more problems as the year progresses... :)
